Pollination power

The western honey bee, scientifically known as Apis mellifera, gets its name from Latin. "Apis" means "bee" and "mellifera" means "honey bee", which aptly describes the species' ability to produce and store honey, a trait that has made it one of the most important and widespread honey bee species in the world. Its role in honey production and pollination underlines its vital contribution to ecosystems and agriculture worldwide.

Equipped with specially adapted hairs that form saddlebags on their hind legs, the western honey bee is one of the most efficient pollinators on Earth. It is responsible for the flowering of about three-quarters of the world's plants and for pollinating about one-third of humanity's food.

Honey bee design

The reverse of the coin depicts a colorful pair of workers resting on the petals of a striking pink daisy with a yellow center. The background depicts other honey bees busily gathering nectar from the honeycomb and blooming flowers.The reverse of the coin, in addition to the ribbon inscribed "HONEY BEE", also shows the weight of the coin, the purity, the year of mintage 2025 and the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark.

Technical information

This coin has been hand "antiqued" (Antique Finish) to give it a unique surface reminiscent of the wear of an ancient artifact. As a result of this treatment, the appearance of other limited edition coins may vary.
